Diploma of Mass Communication

Course Description: This course is based on units from the first year of the Bachelor of Arts degree at Deakin University. It includes an introduction to the areas of Communications Studies, Journalism, Media Arts and Public Relations. The course provides and alternative pathway to university for students who may not be able to gain direct entry to university. Upon successful completion of course, students are eligible for direct entry to second year of the relevant Arts degree at the Deakin University as well as advanced standing at other Australian universities.

Major Studies: Communications; Media Criticism; Journalism; Mass Media; Public Relations; Management.

Entry Requirements: Year 12 or equivalent, Certificate IV in Business & Computing, or Mature Age entry.

Course Duration: 2 semesters (8 months). Courses commence in March, June and October.

Mode of Study: Full-time or Part-time.

Accreditation: The MIBT Diploma of Mass Communication is approved and moderated by Deakin University.

Articulation: This course articulates into second year of the Bachelor of Arts degree at Deakin University (with specialisations in Communications, Media Arts, Public Relations or Journalism).

Career Outcomes: Upon completion of a mass communication specialisation in the Bachelor of Arts at Deakin University, a range of career opportunities will be available in fields such as public relations, journalism, advertising, the media and publishing.
